Graduated B.Sc. in Entomology. Extensive Australian state and Federal government and private sector experience in the development and management of international market access, quarantine and biosecurity strategies, policy and programs associated with food security and international trade. This experience includes 10 years with Biosecurity Australia in various positions, most recently as Manager for Asia. Market access specialist (full time 2011-2013) for the Australian aid funded Pacific Horticulture and Agriculture Market Access (PHAMA) program, acting Team Leader PHAMA 2014, Technical Director (part time) PHAMA (2014-current).
Committed to reducing technical complexity to its simplest, so as to deliver simple and sustainable solutions that promote trade, whilst maintaining quarantine integrity and promoting rural development.
Dr. Anna Duthie
Graduated PhD in Horticulture, MSc in Agriculture. Extensive Australian government and private sector experience in the development of quarantine and biosecurity policy, and practical policy implementation. Employed for 10 years with the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) and Biosecurity Australia, most recently as Assistant Manager North Asia. SPS specialist (full time 2011-2013) for the Australian aid funded Pacific Horticulture and Agriculture Market Access (PHAMA) program.
A key professional focus is working with the agricultural sector to promote and support public-private sector partnerships in the development and implementation of sustainable trade protocols. Particularly interested in helping to address market access issues that are able to provide benefits for women.
Dr. Bronwyn Wiseman
Bronwyn has been involved in agricultural development and biosecurity issues as a consultant, in government policy and regulatory roles, and as a researcher. She has experience in resolving biosecurity and technical market access issues for agricultural products; developing and reviewing biosecurity policies and procedures; design and implementation of international development programs; government and industry liaison; and agricultural research & development.
Prior to joining Kalang in 2011 she had a range of roles with the Australian and New Zealand governments with a particular focus on agriculture and biosecurity. She has worked extensively in the Pacific as well as in north and south-east Asia, Europe, and north and South America. SPS specialist (full time 2013-current) and Deputy Team Leader for the Australian aid funded Pacific Horticulture and Agriculture Market Access (PHAMA) program. She graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Hons) and a PhD in crop protection in 1995. Her interests include the development of sustainable agricultural and food production systems and trade.
Mr. Lennard Powell
Graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture from the University of the South Pacific. Is experienced in fruit fly management, including mass rearing, quarantine surveillance and control measures; development of Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions; development of Plant Health Emergency Response Plan; ISPM review; data management and analysis; agricultural and development finance, policies and procedures; business management; and performance management systems (personnel appraisals). This experience is inclusive of the six-plus years as a business analyst with the Fiji Development Bank; and the three-plus years as a Temporary Technical Assistant, and later Senior Research Officer with the Plant Protection Section, MAFF, Fiji. Interested in agricultural research and plant protection issues, with a focus on market access and currently a Long Term Advisor in the PHAMA Plus team.
